In this week’s new chapter, The Voice of Elara, the villagers make contact with the ship that imprisons them. Elara speaks to them, offering assistance in their eventual escape and confirming many theories they had about their environment, but warns the villagers she must carefully unlock the programming kill code in which she is imprisoned. As a good faith offering, Elara allows people to modify any cognitive enhancements from the nanites in their bodies. Samir elects to partially turn them off. Ian tells his husband he will do the same, but privately makes a choice which will impact the future of the village and change his life in the years to come.

And if you’ve made it this far, I will also say that sometimes it can be discouraging being a writer and being neurodivergent. I recently had two critiques of the book. My ADHD focused on the negative, and ignored the positive. Considering the positive outweighed the negative, did I focus on that?
Nooooooooo… it took me a bit to digest the critiques. I had to remind myself that while I may not be a great writer, there are so, so, so many worse writers out there. And the goal of this was to provide structure so I can finish the book, and THEN do a full edit and revision. Once that’s done, the new version will go on Amazon for sale.
Yes, there’s a few weak spots. Yes, I may need to drop more hints that Ian is somehow sensing the future…and potentially so is Ajay (clever readers will note at the start of the novel when Ian was going over names to be laid off, he listed Ajay’s name…then paused). And soon in a new chapter to come, Magnus needs to confront Elara about what she did to him. All while I’m wrapping up this book in the series.
