In this week’s new chapter, Elara stops a bombing by electrocuting and restarting “The Kill Code Three”: Lisette, Wei, and Neil. But the bombing may have been a trick as two days later, they interrupt the village radio broadcast with a pre-recorded message which exposes manipulated relationships, secret enhancements, and hidden pasts. Ian destroys the transmitter barehanded but not without a high cost. As he lands in a coma, the village fractures. Trust collapses. Allies are confined. Elara cuts contact just when her council is needed most. Samir’s heart is broken in more than just one way.
I will admit a certain amount of glee in causing this grief by putting Ian through a trauma congo. And it’s only going to get worse, but Ian’s actions set up future chapters.
